How to Care for your Collapsible Silicone Containers

Are silicone containers safe to use?
All Ecoberi containers are safe to use. They are made from premium food grade platinum silicone, are BPA free, non-toxic, and do not contain any chemicals, glues, or adhesives. Our containers are eco-friendly, highly temperature resistant, durable, and easy to clean.
How do I wash my silicone containers?
Your silicone containers can be hand washed with warm soapy water or placed in the dishwasher.
Lids are best washed by hand or top shelf only.
If they have acquired a smell from the contents you can soak in baking soda and lemon.
Will silicone stain?
The short answer is, yes it can stain. Silicone is nonporous and naturally stain resistant. However, foods with tomato sauce, or turmeric can cause stains. Turmeric stains are the hardest to remove.
For mild stains:
  1. Mix a paste of baking soda and vinegar or baking soda and hydrogen peroxide.
  2. Make the paste thick enough to stick to side of the containers.
  3. Wash well first, then rub paste onto the sides and bottom of the container, let sit for several hours.
  4. We recommend you repeat this step before moving onto the stubborn stain option if the stain is not completely removed.
For stubborn stains:
  1. Spray the inside of the container with Clorox
  2. Let sit for 1-2 min don’t rinse the Clorox off instead add water to the top.
  3. Let sit for 1-2 hours.
  4. Rinse and wash. This method has been proven to remove the most resilient stains.
*Caution: While Bleach can be used occasionally with great success, we do not recommend using it all the time. Frequent use may damage the silicone.
Are the containers stain-resistant?

Silicone is nonporous and naturally stain resistant. However, foods with tomato sauce, or turmeric can cause stains. Turmeric stains are the hardest to remove. When cooking with turmeric, we recommend using glass to store it or dedicating certain containers for turmeric meals.

We have an two excellent options to remove the stain if it happens. Wash with soap and water then try this:

Does silicone smell?
Silicone should not smell, if the container takes on a smell from what's inside, try this:
  1. The most effective smell remover is baking soda and water, add lemon if you have some. Or you can also use vinegar and water if you don’t have baking soda on hand. Baking soda is the best at removing smells and a handy item to have on hand for 100’s of uses besides cooking.
  2. Mix 1 part water and 1 part baking soda. Let sit for a few
    hours.
What do I do if I see mold?
It is rare form mold to appear on silicone, but it can appear any time there is moisture.
First let’s remove the mold:
  1. Fill the container ½ way with baking soda and vinegar, equal parts. Put the lid on or zip the bag closed.
  2. Shake it until all the mold is removed.
  3. Wash with soap and water and dry completely before storing.
  4. To prevent mold, make sure item is dry before storing with the lid on.
Lid won’t snap closed, why?
The seal can come loose preventing the lid from closing, if this happens use your finger or end of a pencil to secure the seal back in, line up lid and try again.

Will the containers collapse once filled?
When containers are only partially filled and heavy items are placed on top, there is a risk of collapse. It is recommended to either use the containers in their collapsed position if they are not fully filled or transfer the contents to a smaller-sized container that can better support the weight. This ensures the stability and integrity of the container, preventing any potential collapse.
Collapsible containers are designed to be softer in order to facilitate easy collapse for space-saving storage. This feature allows them to be compact when not in use. However, the softer nature of collapsible containers can have both advantages and disadvantages depending on individual needs.
The plus side of softer collapsible containers is their flexibility and ability to save space when empty or partially filled. They can be easily collapsed and stored in tight spaces, making them convenient for travel or limited storage areas.
On the other hand, the softer material of collapsible containers may have some limitations. When partially filled and subjected to heavy items placed on top, they may be more prone to collapsing or losing their shape. This can be a potential drawback if you need to stack or pack them tightly with heavy items.
It's important to consider your specific requirements and preferences when choosing between collapsible and rigid containers, weighing the benefits of space-saving convenience against the potential trade-offs in stability and weight-bearing capacity.
